Actor Matthew McConaughey showed off his lifelong Washington Redskins Fandom Sunday, when the team, now known as the commanders, got ready to play in the NFC championship.
McConaughey sent a photo of a small letterman jacket with the Redskins logo on the left.

“When he came since 1974,” he wrote the post at X.
While it seemed to surprise fans of the “Interstellar” star that he would be a fan of Washington, McConaughey talked about his support for the NFL team in 2014.
He told GQ Magazine he became a fan because of old Western films. He said he “messed up with the Indians” and that because he liked hamburgers, he liked Redskins because of their linebacker Chris Hanburger.
At that time he also expressed support to keep Redskin’s nickname. Then team owner Daniel Snyder had promised not to change the name, but did by 2020 in the middle of a summer of racial excitement in the USA

“What interests me is how quickly it was pushed into the social consciousness,” he told the magazine at the time. “We were doing well with it since the 1930s, and suddenly we go, ‘No, do you have to change it?’ It seems that when the first Levee breaks, everyone comes on board.
“It’s like my sense of pistol control: ‘I get it. You have the right to have guns. But look, let’s forget it right. Let’s forget the joy you’ll get on your assortment because it’s in the wrong hands elsewhere.
The Redskin Name is still a Hot-Button problem for fans of the franchise. It looked like the old logo will somehow be honored as the franchise seems to be building a new stadium on the old RFK site.

Now, as the commanders, McConaughey still supports the team and will look closely as Washington seems to be doing the Super Bowl for the first time since the 1991 season.
