‘May-style reaction’ if war is forced, warns COAS

Pakistan remains a peace-loving country but will respond decisively to any aggression, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir said on Sunday, citing the armed forces’ response to India during Marka-e-Haq in May as an example of the country’s resolve. Speaking to the media at the presidency following the departure of King Abdullah II of Jordan, he referred to Quranic verses to draw parallels between historic battles and the spirit with which Pakistan’s forces operated. Field Marshal Asim said the army had advanced "in the way of Allah" and arose with honor under Marka-e-Haq. He reiterated that Pakistan seeks peace but any attempt by an enemy to impose war will be met with the same firmness demonstrated earlier this year. Referring again to the Quran’s guidance, the army chief said Pakistani soldiers fought with conviction and purpose. He added that the victory achieved in May was given by Allah and emphasized that the success was a divine blessing.
