- McAfee says that scam detector hits 99% accuracy, including deepfake -spotting on video platforms

- Scam Detector adds flash to McAfee’s lineup but free rivals could be more practical
McAfee has begun to gather its new scam detector function in all its central antivirus plans.
The tool claims to identify fraud before causing damage and offering real-time scanning of text, email and video content.
The move seems to be an answer to the rising threat of AI-driven fraud, but it raises questions about whether users should pay for this kind of protection when there are more free and similar options.
Fidus detection access
McAfee says its tools boast 99% accuracy for text -based threats and claims to detect Deepfakes from YouTube and Tiktok with 96% accuracy.
Built with mobile use in mind, it supports apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, Gmail and more, to be able to scan Android SMS automatically and allow manual scans on iPhones.
Its settings allow users to adjust the sensitivity, and it includes on-demand control by uploading messages or screens.
“The reality is that the volume, speed and sophisticated of today’s AI-driven fraud has become a drain in people’s time, energy and finance,” said Craig Boundy, CEO of McAfee
“By including text-, e -mail and video -fidus — detection in all core McAfee plans, we help democratize fraud protection and allow people to take control of their digital lives.”
To access, however, you must pay for a McAfee Antivirus subscription plan and ask the question of whether the scam detector only justifies to pay for a full security suite – especially with credible free tools available.
The free alternatives
Such a free tool is Bitdefender’s Scamio, a chatbot available on Discord. This feature is not scheduled as McAfee; It is completely free and allows users to scan links, texts, screens and even QR codes for scam detection.
The tool uses AI to interpret both context and language, but does not include video Deepfake Detection. Nevertheless, it is available and effective for everyday threats.
Google has also rolled out an AI-based scam detector, but only for pixel phones and only in beta. It scans sound from incoming calls and warns real -time users if it typically identifies fraud language.
Like McAfee, Norton, another heavy weight integrates into the antivirus space, its genie fraud protection in its plans, although it focuses on identifying fraud language rather than just malicious URLs.
Users must also subscribe to gain full access to its coverage across texts, calls, e emails and sites.
McAfee’s scam detector may be able to improve the company’s status among the best antivirus providers, but its positioning as a plan-exclusive feature makes it less accessible than alternatives like Scamio.
