Meaco has launched a new laptop with a very welcome upgrade: The battery can be removed and replaced. This means that it should be good to keep you cool for many years to come. Less electronic waste and a more sustainable product life cycle are better news for the planet, but it’s also good to know that your fan is built to stay around.
Meaco is doing some of the best fans we’ve tested and the laptop Meacofan Seft 8in is the latest addition to the brand’s award-winning SEFT SERIE. It joins the larger SEFT 10IN table and pedestal fans, as a more compact, lightweight option with a smaller footprint and shorter profile.
With a quiet and energy efficient brushless engine, SEFTE 8IN is designed to be as cheap as possible to run. It can be used wirelessly or corded, but disconnected it offers up to 17 hours of use on a single charge.
There are also several features that are designed to make it suitable for use at night: There is a night mode that disables light and sounds, and the magnetic remote glowing in the dark, so should you need to adjust the settings for the little hours, you can do so without having to light light. Meaco has also made the lower levels (1-4) targeted more gentle, so they are suitable for using close range, while higher levels (5+) pack more of a stamp.
Technically, this is an air circulator rather than a fan, which means it is designed to project a narrow beam of air long, jump it from the walls and ceilings and deliver a smooth temperature around the room (in contrast, traditional fans move a wide air arch, but not very far).
A battery boost
A battery week could spoil the appearance of an advanced product, but MeaCo has taken time over the design and integrated it in a classic way. The lid has been expanded to follow the base of the base to melt in and look like a subtle design blooms.
At this point it is pretty rare to see gadgets with available batteries. However, that is changing at least in the EU: The upcoming EU regulation requires all electronic products to offer easily interchangeable batteries by 2027. MeaCo is ahead of the curve here, but I look forward to seeing more appliances built with a long life in mind … Although predominantly due to legal requirements.
A replaceable battery is especially good news in a fan because batteries tend to lose their capacity if you don’t charge them fairly regularly. It is a danger of fans that people tend to jump in a closet and forget during the winter months.
We are in the process of reviewing Meacofan Seft 8in to see how it works in practice. It comes with a list price of £ 79.99 and will be available to buy directly from Meaco as well as via Amazon from June 17. MEACOS MEACOFAN 1056P and 1056 fans are also available in the United States, but due to financial uncertainty there are no current plans to launch SEFT 8in there.
