Medicine has expressed serious concerns about the “worsening conditions” at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital-The largest government-run hospital in District Central and has demanded the immediate release of wages for medical staff.
When he spoke at a press conference at Pima House on Saturday, Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) also criticized the recent declarations of the Karachi mayor and called them “irresponsible” and accused him of aggravating the situation. They also warned that the hospital, which is “on fan support”, is pushed against privatization.
The press was organized to protest the non-payment of wages to house officers (at) and postgraduate trainees (PGS) at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital as well as to highlight the serious lack of facilities in the hospital.
Dr. Zeeshan Hussain, Secretary General of Pima Karachi, emphasized the critical role that house officers and postgraduate trainees in the hospital’s operations. Staff at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital have not been paid for the past six months, he revealed. “While PGs in SINDH government hospitals receive RS104,000, they receive only RS75,000 at Abbasi Shaheed only. Prof Muttaqi complained about the long -standing neglect of the hospital and added that conditions have worsened over the past 15 years.
“Since 2007, there have been no significant improvements. Fifty percent of doctors have been withdrawn, the canteen is closed, three out of four lifts are out of service, and only two surgeons remain in place against sanctioned strength of 18.
