Megan Rapinoe calls Trump’s executive order prohibiting trans athletes ‘depraved’

Former USWNT -Star Megan Rapinoe The goal against President Donald Trump’s executive order that effectively banned transient athletes from girls and women’s sports called the action “cruel and depraved.”

The interview was conducted the day after Trump signed “To keep men out of women’s sports” Executive last month.

“Don’t tell me it’s about the rights to women’s sports,” Said Rapinoe. “It’s just uncomfortable to say that. I think it’s just really cruel. You know if you stripe it all back, it’s just cruel and depressed. This is not a problem and you won’t be able to be able to exist to exist order people out of existence.”

“We just went through a very long period over ten years of really needing to fight just to get to a baseline with, like equal rights and non-discriminatory behavior, and when people just stop s- on women’s sports. I think we’re kind of at that moment.”

The executive order requires units that receive federal funding to adapt to section IX, which Trump administration changed last month to recognize protection on the basis of biological sex – to undo former President Joe Bite’s rewrite 2024.

Rapinoe, one of Trump’s most free -speaking critics, said back in November that she was afraid of the trans community afterwards Trump’s election victory.

“I feel overwhelmed by the reality that becomes a Trump presidency that we’ve seen before – so I don’t feel like I’m saying something new – but the reality where it could happen anyone’s crazy any day. I think it’s really overwhelming,” Rapinoe said at the time of his podcast, “a touch more.”

“I think I feel – not so much personally scared because I think we live in very progressive places, we are incredibly privileged in our place in the world and life and financial and all these things, but I think fear extends to just humans in general who will really be affected,” she continued. Rapinoe’s interview Monday ended by encouraging other athletes to use their platforms to speak out.

“There are so many ways we can grow and kind of codify lasting changes,” she said. “And I always encourage players specifically to be involved and use their voice. Players are actually always the most powerful people in sports.”
