Charlene White, Loose Women star and news anchor, has issued support for Meghan Markle, who was recently mocked Saturday Night Live.
The broadcaster, which itself came under fire for not carrying a poppy on air during Remembrance Day, blasted TV audiences’ obsession with tearing down Meghan.
She shut down the Duchess’s consistent backlash, saying it is “unfathomable” to her that people choose to be so critical.
She said: “We could do an episode with Harry and Meghan and people will be chatting about it on social media for weeks and weeks afterwards.
“I just can’t wrap my head around people being so deep and opinionated and also hateful towards someone they’ve never met before in their life,” she expressed her anger in conversation with Daily Mail at the British Diversity Awards at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London.
“It blows my mind and it’s unfathomable to me.”
White, who co-hosted the diversity awards, continued: “I like discussing her because I think it’s important that we talk about her without the intention of trying to get clicks and trying to put another woman down.
“I think it’s really important when for some it’s almost a sport to knock her down.”
Actor Hammed Animashaun delivered a pointed joke about Prince Harry’s marriage, signing off that the Duke “was going to marry a woman who 98 per cent of the British public will find impossible to have a normal conversation about”.
Royal fans were split over the targeted joke, with one replying: “Ouchh!!! —— Again??”
However, another social media user said: “The smearing of Prince Harry and Meghan just won’t do. It’s overused and frankly too transparent.”
