San Francisco: Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg proclaimed the tech company’s generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) Assistant on Wednesday and told shareholders used by a billion people every month across his platforms.
Zuckerberg noticed the milestone again at Meta’s annual collection of shareholders and as the social media Behemoth is Vies with Google, Microsoft, Openai and others to be a leader in Gen AI.
It was not clear how much Meta AI use involved people who searched the chatbot versus passive users of Meta AI as it is built into features of its family of apps.
Since Google debuted AI reviews in search results a year ago, it has grown to more than 1.5 billion users, according to Google Managing Director Sundar Pichai.
“That means Google Search brings Gen Ai to more people than any other product in the world,” Pichai said.
Google’s AI listings are automatically provided summary of search results that appear instead of the previous practice of simply displaying pages with blue links to relevant sites.
Pichai said last week that Google’s dedicated Gemini AI app has more than 400 million monthly users.
Technical rivals are quickly releasing new AI products despite ongoing challenges in preventing wrong information and establishing clear business models and a little sense of how technology will affect society.
Meta revealed its first free AI assistant -App on April 29, giving users a direct path to its gene AI models.
“A billion people use Meta AI across our apps now, so we made a new free Meta AI app that you can check out,” Meta CEO said, and founder Mark Zuckerberg in a video sent on Instagram at the time.
Zuckerberg said the app “is designed to be your personal AI” and would primarily access via voting conversations with the interactions that are personalized to the individual user.
Using Meta AI is growing fastest on WhatsApp, according to CFO Susan Li.
“Our focus for this year is to elaborate on the experience and make Meta AI the leading personal AI,” Zuckerberg said, as Meta announced quarterly earnings at the end of April.
