- Metas CTO was asked what we can expect from Meta Connect 2025
- In response, he teased “Store Wearables -Messages”
- He did not mention VR -hardware though
Meta Connect 2025 is fast approaching – it’s just over a month away on September 17 – but Meta’s CTO already suggests what we want to look at the event, and maybe just as important he suggests what we don’t see this time not mentioning it.
Andrew Bosworth hosts frequent AMAs on Instagram (via Uploadvr), where he sometimes gives surprisingly open answers to questions asked by the public with his latest comments relating to an AMA about what he can expect from Connect 2025.
After asking himself what he may imply, Bosworth reveals that the event will include “Big wearables messages”, “AI, especially AI Plus Wearables,” “Ai Plus Metaverse” and “Metaverse Software.”
I will dive into them -especially the Wearables side -in an instant, but I will highlight a category Bosworth not named: Metaverse -hardware, aka VR / MRI -Headset.
Now it is worth noting that the lack of a promise of a message is not the same as explicit to say that there will be no new VR hardware. But the lack of a new Meta Quest 4, Meta Quest Pro 2 or another kind of headset was expected – and this Bosworth AMA adds additional fuel to the speculation fire.
Rumors tease a new headset – or goggles – comes from Meta in the future, but it’s not due to land until at least next year, based on leaks. Waiting also gives meta flexibility to better push back towards the project Moohan from Samsung and Google has in store when the Android XR enters the ring.
Quest 3 and Quest 3s are good machines; Meta doesn’t have to hurry their successor.
We can at least be excited about new Metaverse software, although it is unclear what form this will take. New VR games or video streaming services would be ideal (an update to Deadpool VR seems likely), but there is not too much information to go based on Bosworth’s comments or wider leaks.

Glasses galore
Okay, don’t hold your breath in a search 4. But what hardware should we keep our eyes out of?
Wearables probably come in three forms based on rumors and Meta’s recent Oakley Smart Specs launch.
The most likely is a model that is the Celeste code name, according to the rumors. These smart glasses have long been rumored and tilted to be AI-glasses-very likely Meta-Råd connections-with a display for the first time. They will not be fully as the Orion Prototype, instead of offering something of half a step between them and what we currently have.
Celeste is said to be equipped with a single screen only and it does not boast of a wide field of view or offer position tracking. This means that the messages and information the glasses show that you will always appear at a certain distance away, rather than that you are able to practically set them in the room so that you can move close or further away to what you can with a real object.
These glasses can also come packed with Meta’s first bracelet or another Smartwatch-like laptop. Instead of tracking health meals, Meta Watch is mostly assumed to be focused on giving you control over virtual objects and messages, but I wouldn’t be shocked if there was an upgraded version you could buy that includes typically health and fitness monitoring. That is, if the base model is missing these features.

My final wearables prediction is more of a punt, but it makes sense to me when you consider the age of Meta’s latest beam ban and hardware upgrades the new Oakley’s received.
That is, I think Meta will also launch an update of its display-free radiation connections with the improved camera and battery that Oakley’s offers-mayor with some new designs to start.
Unlike Celeste, there are no rumors about this, and usually there would be if we are close to launch, but it seems that a no brains give Meta ‘ultra popular smart glasses an easy update so they are in the best possible place to avert the Android XR specifications to start dropping in 2026.
