New York Mets team owner Steve Cohen approached disappointed fans Monday after the team suffered a terrible collapse and missed the post -season.
Miami Marlins brought the last downfall to Mets and defeated them 4-0 in the season finale on Sunday.

“Mets fans everywhere,” Cohen wrote on X. “I owe you an apology. You did your part by showing up and supporting the team. We didn’t do our part. We’ll do a post-Mortem and find out the obvious and less obvious reasons why the team didn’t appear up to yours and my expectations.
“We all feel raw feelings today. I know how much time and effort you put in this team. The result was unacceptable. Your feelings tell me how much you love and continue to motivate the organization to make it better. Thanks to the best sports fans.”
Minutes after the loss, first Baseman Pete Alonso said he would opt out of his deal and test -free agency.
“There are some good guys in this clubhouse, there are some good people on the staff,” he said. “And every single day it has just been a pleasure to come to work and put it orange and blue. I have really appreciated and been nothing more than full of gratitude every single day. Nothing is guaranteed but we get to see what happens.

Mets started. New York was 45-24 on June 12, one of the best items in MLB at the time, and only went 38-55 for the rest of the season to finish 83-79 after their latest crushing loss on Sunday night.
New York entered the 2025 season with the second highest total payroll more than $ 341 million and the second highest active list of payroll with $ 266.6 million, according to Spotrac. Juan Soto came to Mets from New York Yankees on a 15-year deal that is allegedly worth $ 765 million. And while the bats were hot to start the year, the team cooled as it matters.
Mets suffered an eight-game losing row at the worst time, starting with a series against Reds and continued through Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers Matchups. The team jumped back towards San Diego Padres and then fell two of three against Washington Nationals.
The series against Marlins was crucial, but New York was only able to draw a win out of the three matches. New York was 11-17 in August and ended 10-15 in September.
