Mexican Indycar -Driver ‘Caught Vague’ by Ice’s ‘Speedway Slammer’ Post

The Department of Homeland Security released an AI-generated photo of an ice sponsored Indycar this week, and it caught the eyes of some of Indycar’s officials and one of its top drivers.

The post was overwritten “The Speedway Slammer” and depicted a prison house behind a car on the track.

The car’s number was 5, the same as Pato O’Wars car. The 26-year-old was born in Monterrey, Mexico.

“We were not aware of plans to incorporate our photos as part of yesterday’s message,” Indycar said in a statement on Wednesday. “In accordance with our approach to public politics and political issues, we communicate our preference that our IP is not used in relation to this matter.”

O’ward said he didn’t see the post until a friend texted him about it.

“I haven’t really read it too much because I don’t think I will,” he said.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem used in a separate post “Speedway Lamb” when he announced the new partnership with the state of Indiana to extend the detention room with 1,000 beds. Indiana is home to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where the Indycar series is based.

That race, March 15, will be on a 2.7-miles layout that circles at home stadiums in NFL’s Dallas Cowboys and MLBS Texas Rangers. O’ward threw a ceremonial first pitch before Rangers’ fight against New York Yankees.
