- Exchange Server and Skype for Business Support Expanded on October 14, 2025
- A last ESU will then be available for only six months
- Customers are encouraged to upgrade ASAP to remain in safety
Microsoft has confirmed a number of welcome updates that will see older versions of its Exchange Server and Skype for Business Keep Support a little longer, to give customers time to continue to migrate to recent opportunities.
Exchange Server 2016 and 2019, and Skype for Business 2015 and 2019, both will lose support on October 14, 2025 – the same day that Windows 10 also loses support – but a new extended security update (ESU) will be offered in place.
Unlike the operating system, ESUs, Exchange and Skype are only available with a disposable, six-month ESU program that covers critical and important nominal security updates, but it is still a welcome feature for those who need a little extra time.
Microsoft offers a six-month ESU on Exchange and Skype
The ESU period runs from October 14, 2025 to 14 April 2026 without further extensions possible.
Customers can contact Microsoft from August 1st to get price and purchase information as ESUs will not be available via Windows Update or public downloads – just for those who have signed up for the program.
“This ESU is not an ‘extension of support lifecycle’,” Microsoft added. “This ESU is a way for customers who may not be able to complete their migrations to exchange see before 14 October 2025.” Redmond made the same comments to Skype in another post.
As such, the company encourages customers to conduct migrations for Exchange Subscription Edition (SE) or Skype for Business See prior to the end of the support.
It is unclear how many users are left on older, soon-to-be-evaluated versions of the Exchange of Skype, but if Windows 11 migration is something to pass by, it can be a lot. It was not until June 2025 that the number of Windows 10 and Windows 11 installations reached almost parity-lead then the number of people driving Windows 10 was much higher.
