- Users no longer need to use Windows updates after first logging in
- By updating under OOBE, PCS is protected from first day
- The change is valid for Microsoft Entra connected and hybrid joined for units
From September 2025, Windows 11 (22H2 or newer) devices will be able to install quality updates under the Out of the Box Experience (OOBE), which means it is set to be even easier for administrators to install updates during setup.
The change applies to Microsoft Entra joined and Entra Hybrid joined units.
For the administrators, they see Windows now checking for and installing relevant updates on the final OOBE page so users do not have to use any updates when logging in for the first time.
Smoother Windows updates to all
“With Windows Autopilot and Microsoft Intune (or Alternative Management Solutions), you can maintain trouble-free control over quality update during delivery while ensuring adaptation to organizational security and observance requirements,” Microsoft Product Manager Victoria Wang wrote in a blog post,
The system requires devices to run Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, Education or SE, and companies need to use Microsoft Intune to manage Windows Quality updates.
The Oobe Update Experience is also available only to those who have had August 2025 Oobe Zero-Day Patch or those depicted with Windows Non-Security Update in June 2025.
Because units will be distributed to workers with the latest safety and quality updates, companies can improve security and compliance right from day one. It also reduces the burden of workers and IT teams after unit distribution.
This marks a welcome change from the previous setup, which then the end users had to update their computers after receiving them.
The improvement comes when more companies update to Windows 11 ahead of the upcoming Windows 10 end of October 2025.
Canalys research manager Kieren Jessop explained that the commercial update cycle is now “to give vital momentum for [PC] Market ”While consumers are exercising more caution.
