- Hotpatch -Updates for Windows Server 2025 Standard and Data Center can be charged
- Companies pay $ 1.50 per CPU -Core every month
- 12 annual restarts turn four with the service
Microsoft is investigating an opportunity for customers to pay a monthly fee to avoid regular machine starts after it revealed details of an upcoming hot patching option last year.
Redmond had previously made Hotpatching for Windows Server 2025 available in preview in 2024, but prior to its general availability on July 1, 2025, the company has confirmed that it will come at a price.
In the summer, users who want to continue with their hot patching upgrades must pay $ 1.50 a month per month. The CPU core.
Microsoft will charge for Windows Server Hotpatching
To be compatible, servers must be Windows Server 2025 Standard or Data Center -edition and connected to Azure ARC. Azure editions (Azure IAAS, Azure Local and Azure Stack) of Windows Server will continue to get hot patching for free.
Microsoft also added that users enrolled in the preview program must unsubscribe by June 30 if they do not want to continue below the paid plan.
As part of the schedule, machines have four baseline updates a year in January, April, July and October, each requiring a reboot. Two of the three months per Quarter consists of HotPatches – Updates that do not require a system recovery. This corresponds to eight hot patches a year against four restart updates – a significant saving for those who pay $ 1.50 monthly fee per year. The CPU core.
Windows Server Product Marketing Manager Janine Patrick and Senior Program Manager Artem Pronichkin explained that sometimes a non-hotpatch update should be pushed during a hot patch period for security reasons, but for the most part the schedule must remain on track.
“Hotpatching can save significant time and ease the inconvenience of a traditional ‘patch on Tuesday,” they added.
