- Microsoft Report warns about “The Infinite Workday” creeping in
- Workers come online earlier and end later than ever before
- They are also interrupted by an E -mail or chat message every few minutes
New research from Microsoft has revealed that many of us are struggling to maintain a healthy balance between working life and life – and that an overload of tasks could be what prevents us from achieving any kind of productivity.
The company’s special report from the June 2025 trend index has warned of “The Infinite Workday”, as it says, is a “significant shift” in the hours we work largely thanks to the influence of Hybrid workplaces – and of course AI.
The report, based on “trillion” of productivity signals such as e emails, chat messages and meetings gathered across Microsoft 365, warns the modern work day no longer has a clear beginning or ending -and has called for greater AI tools to help reduce this burden on everyday workers.
Do you work … 06.00 to 20:00? What way of earning a living
“Our research, based on trillions of globally overall and anonymized Microsoft 365 productivity signals, reveals a challenging new roadblock: a seemingly endless work day,” Microsoft noted.
“AI offers a way out of the ant, especially if it is paired with a reimaginated rhythm of work. Otherwise, we risk using AI to speed up a broken system.”
Microsoft said it found a big increase in users who came online at. 06:00, where 40% of users apparently scan through their inbox to prioritize tasks for the day.
At. At 08.00, Microsoft Teams Chat has overtaken E -mail, with half of all meetings, which then take place between 9-11 and noon. 13.00 – Especially the time when most of us are the most focused and productive all day.
Tuesdays turned out to be the busiest day for meetings by 23% – while Fridays only have 16% of all meetings. Polluting found Microsoft that meetings held after 1 p.m. 20, has increased by 16% years over years, showing that late finishes also become worryingly normal.
Weekend -e -Mail -Use also saw a large increase in which almost 20% of employees checked their E -mail before noon on Saturday and Sunday -and over 5% are back on E emails on Sunday night.
The report found that the average worker receives 117 e emails and 153 team messages daily, which means they are disturbed by an E email, chat or meet every 2 minutes. Most employees were now also found to send or receive over 50 chats outside their core opening hours and risk their downturned time.
“This points to a greater truth: The modern work day for many has no clear start or finish,” concluded Microsoft. “As business requirements become more complex and expectations continue to rise, time, when reserved for focus or improvement, can now be used to catch up, prepping and chase clarity.”
“The signals are clear: It’s time to break the cycle. Work future will not be defined by how much drudgeri we automate, but by what we choose to basically Reimagine. AI can give us the gearing to redesign the rhythm of work, refill our teams about new and differentiating work, and FIX, what has become a seemingly infinite work day. We will. “
