- Microsoft Teams channels join the chats to get pop-out windows soon
- Upgrade should help with collaborative efficiency
- The upgrade could land next month as Microsoft presses to make teams very effective
A much-needed update to Microsoft teams hopes to make the online collaboration software more conducive to multitasking by introducing a feature that allows more conversations to be visible at the same time-perfect for hybrid work.
This means that workers will more easily be able to control chats and channels, especially when working with different colleagues and teams at the same time.
“You can now open channels in a separate window to stay on top of several conversations at once,” the company explained in a timetable entrance.
Teams get new pop-out options
Although Microsoft already supports pop-outs for chats, teams have long lacked support for this with channels.
As it says, users can change the size of and rearrange more windows to compare notes from multiple conversations, so it was only natural for channels to get this too.
Microsoft says this pipeline product should start rolling out next month across Desktop clients, although it is currently under development and unexpected obstacles can delay this.
More broadly, a look at the roadmap for teams will make it clear that Microsoft is required to make the platform more interactive and many of the updates are centered around simpler and faster interactions. For example, at the end of the year, teams will also be able to update your work location automatically by recognizing Wi-Fi networks.
With regard to chats and channels, Microsoft also recently rolled threads in channels, allowing users to respond to messages in spin-off threads without clogging the entire channel to keep separate conversations easier to follow.
“All of these updates are designed to help you work smarter, automate the routine and get more from every minute you use in teams,” explained Kerry Perez Heffernan.
