Miftah criticizes Govt’s economic policies

Karachi:

Awam Pakistan Party (App) leader Miftah Ismail on Saturday criticized the government’s economic policy and said that if the prime minister had reduced the budget deficit, interest would have fallen into single digits.

Miftah, who approached a news conference at the Karachi Press Club along with the former MNA Salahuddin, Nasiruddin and others, said the new federal budget had wasted the country’s time while further burdening the public.

He argued that the Prime Minister should have focused on the National Finance Commission (NFC) prize, adding that the World Bank reports a significant proportion of Pakistan’s population living below the poverty line, with two million young people who are unable to find jobs every year. He condemned the introduction of taxes, even on basic goods in the new budget and called it “shameful.”

With reference to the recent tragic incident in SWAT, where 18 poor individuals drowned, Miftah called it a moment of national reflection. He questioned whether such a tragedy would have taken place if the victims were affiliated with a political party.
