The Costa Rica authorities gave an update on the investigation of Miller Gardner’s death, the 14-year-old son of former New York Yankees player Brett Gardner.
Costa Rica Judicial Investigative Agency (OIJ) Director -General Randall Zúñiga told journalists at a press conference on Monday that “high levels of carbon monoxide pollution” were found in the family’s hotel room, and that could have been the cause of teenager’s death.
“It is also important to note that next to [the family’s] Room There is a specialized engine room from which it is assumed that some form of pollution may have reached the rooms, which has potentially caused the incident, “Zúñiga said in Spanish via the New York Post.
Zúñiga added that OIJ informed both the local fire department and the Ministry of Health for “taking appropriate steps to this confirmed pollution in space” and that OIJ was working with the FBI in the United States when “waiting for the final results of forensic toxicology.”

The Gardner family was on holiday in Costa Rica when they announced their tragic losses.
“We have so many questions and so few answers at this time, but we know he died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday, March 21,” Gardners said in a statement released by Yankees.
Brett and his wife Jessica Gardner also said that other family members were sick during the holidays.
Early reports suggested that Miller probably died of choking in his sleep due to food poisoning, although this theory was later neglected.

The The Gardner family became At Arenas del Mar Hotel in Manuel Antonio and ate at an Italian restaurant at a nearby hotel on Thursday. All four family members started to get sick at. 23 local time left at the facility where they lived.
Arena del Mar Hotel called a doctor to give them medication to help with the stomach. The next morning Miller Gardner was found dead with traces of vomiting.
Officials have interviewed the doctor, hotel and restaurant staff and undergoing security recordings.
Gardner -The family shared details of the upcoming funeral and reflected on his life in the obituary, which was published in Charleston Post and Courier earlier on Monday.
“Void Miller’s passing magazines in the heart of his family, friends, teammates, teachers, coaches and others will be felt for years. The Gardner family will forever cherish the places they have visited, the people they met, the friends they made, and the memories they created together,” reads.

“Miller’s time here with them was short, but his spirit will continue forever through those who were influenced by the way he lived.”
Brett Gardner played for Yankees from 2008-2021 and was part of the organization’s last World Cup in 2009. Gardner is one of the few former Yankees who have been teammates with Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez, and then Aaron Judge many years later.
