The United Nations: Millions of people in 14 countries risk hunger after the United States suddenly stopped relief, the United Nations has warned.
The World Food Program (WFP), which was already struggling with a decrease in 40 percent in financing for this year, said it had been notified of the new US assistance that stopped at 14 countries.
In comments on X, the Agency did not name these countries.
“If implemented, this could be a death sentence for millions of people facing extreme hunger and hunger,” the agency said.
WFP is not the only UN body affected by US financing cuts as the United States under President Donald Trump turns sharply inward and stops trying to help other countries around the world as part of an isolationist agenda.
The Trump administration told the UN Population Fund, an agency dedicated to promoting sexual and reproductive health that it ended two programs, the AFP organization told Monday.
One of the programs was for Afghanistan while the other involved Syria.
Other countries, in addition to the United States, have also announced cuts in funding in recent months, causing alarms among NGOs and international organizations.
The Trump administration has largely turned off USAID, the largest US humanitarian aid organization. It previously had an annual budget of $ 42.8 billion, which was 42 percent of all aid money paid worldwide.
