Minister of Energy Awais Leghari, has ordered immediate dismissal of seven senior officials from National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC) of negligence and delays in critical infrastructure projects, Power Division announced on Wednesday.
Among the removed are the deputy CEO, two general leaders, CFO and three chief engineers. The move follows a high -level meeting where the minister expressed serious concern about inefficiency and their financial costs.
“The NTDC Board has been instructed to show zero tolerance for delays,” Leghari said in the statement, warning that continuous setback cost the country “billions of rupees.”
The Minister had previously ordered a study of sustained delays in key transfer and sending projects. The NTDC board subsequently identified systemic errors in project planning and execution, especially within the planning wing, which had been under the supervision of the now dismissed officials.
Studies revealed that the department repeatedly did not meet deadlines. In response, the Board of Directors immediately issued “OSD” (awaiting posting orders) Directives for deputy MD, both GMS and CFO. In addition, three chief engineers were removed from their positions for what the board described as “the exit of duty.”
NTDC MD has been given two weeks to take disciplinary actions against other employees, including managers and vice -generators found to be underpreaters.
In an attempt to review the organization, the NTDC Board also approved a new strategy aimed at tackling chronic inefficiencies in the project implementation.
“Each delay in these projects Direct Pakistan’s economy,” the minister added, signaling the government’s fixed obligation to improve accountability and performance in the energy sector.
