Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Karachi Port Trust (KPT) confirmed on Friday that their official account on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) was hacked overnight.

In a statement, the Ministry of Economic Affairs spokesman clarified that any positions made during the violation must be considered unauthorized and not representative of the Ministry’s views or policies.
The following tweet was made by the account after it was hacked.
The incident comes two days after Pakistan’s national cyber preparedness team released a red alarm in response to rising cyber threats after recent military tensions with India.
The counseling had warned of attempts to disrupt critical national networks and spread disinformation through misleading messages, phishing schemes and fabricated stories.
The ministry said there is an effort to secure the compromised account and investigate the violation.
Tensions between India and Pakistan were intensified after a deadly attack on April 22, 2025 in Pahagam, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) who claimed that 26 men’s lives immediately accused Pakistani elements of the assault, despite not making evidence, a claim that Pakistan strongly denied.
India continued to launch “Operation Sindoor”, which targeted several rankings in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), resulting in the death of 31 civilians, including women and children, and 71 wounded.
In response, the Pakistani army launched a retaliatory operation that took down five Indian fighter jets and a combat drone.
The military spokesman confirmed that the aircraft included three Rafale jet, a MIG-29, an SU series aircraft and an Israeli-made Heron Drone.
These were shot down over Bhatinda, Jammu, Akhnoor, Srinagar and Avantipur, he maintained.
Later, New Delhi started inserting drones into Pakistani airspace. The Pakistani Army has reported to capture and destroy 77 Israeli made up here drones launched by India to target civil and military places.
