The US Fence Minnesota Division announced plans to sanction only mixed gender events that move forward in response to new policies that prevent biologically male trans athletes from competing in women’s competitions.
The United States fence changed its policies to ensure that only biological females are able to compete in the women’s category last month after the entire US Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USAPC) updated its athletic security policy to suggest compliance with President Donald Trump’s “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” Executive Order.
Now, the Minnesota USA hencing division goes out of its way to ensure that every single event, the sanctions, allows biological men to compete against women in response. The department’s message criticized the US hencing’s new policy as “harmful”.

“The Minnesota Division would like to confirm our obligation to include and recognize the harmful effects of the new US fence policy guided by the USOPC guidelines,” the message began. “The recent changes in US fence policy in accordance with the USAPC guidelines have caused pain and confusion throughout the fence community.”
The message continued to insist that the division must follow the Minnesota Human Rights Act that protects the gender identity.
“We are currently seeking guidance on how to move on without violating either [the USA Fencing policy or the Minnesota Human Rights act]. Because of this, only mixed events will be sanctioned at this time, “the message reads.

US fence has been the most investigated USAPC -controlling body in its 2025 strings controversy.
The United States fence has been under a national microscope for its gender eligibility policy since April 2, when footage of women’s fence Stephanie Turner kneeled to protest against a trans opponent at a competition in Maryland became viral. Turner was disqualified and got a black card for her rejection of meeting the Trans opponent, which led to the massback against USA hencing.
The controversy was then the subject of a federal consultation on May 7th. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Under Committee’s “InJourly Play: Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” Then Witness Witness Against US fence chair Damien Lehfeldt.
At the beginning of June, the USA hencing’s board voted to change its previous policy that Priority States With LGBTQ-friendly laws for host sites for competitions and a policy that may have prevented the game by National Anthem at some events. Both of these policies were also very criticized in the wake of Turner’s viral protest.
Then, the next week, Two USA hencing board of director members filed a lawsuit against the other six in large members, claiming Lehfeldt made false statements to Congress during the hearing on May 7. The applicants, Andrey Geva and Abdel Salem, each have long ties to the sport and the organization, former coaching or competing for Team USA.
The United States fence responded to the trial in a statement to Pakinomist Digital and said “This derived trial represents our organization, and we will vigorously defend the organization in court; any attempt to scare them will be treated appropriately.”
Meanwhile, Minnesota has been one of the most resilient states in the country to Trump’s executive order to protect women’s sports.
The US Ministry of Health and Human Services and the Department of Education has launched Title IX studies of the state of its policies that allow trans -athletes in women’s and girls’ sports. The DOE study was raised to the federal title IX study team operating with the Ministry of Justice on June 12.
The state is also engaged in a couple of litigation on the issue, a submitted by State Attorney Keith Ellison against the Trump administration, and another submitted by three anonymous girls softball players against Ellison and the state of competing with a transgender cunning in the 2025 season.
