For the first time in the MLB story, balls and strikes will be able to be challenged from the 2026 season.
The automated balls/strikes (ABS) Challenge System, which was shown during spring training to test it at the Big League level, will be implemented after the Joint Competition Committee voted for that Tuesday afternoon.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred gave a notice of the huge change of baseball game.

“The previous rule changes adopted by the joint competition committee have had a residence power and created momentum for the game,” he said in a statement. “We used the same process of ABS that started by listening to fans, performing extensive testing at less League -level and trying at each step to make the game better. Throughout this process, we have worked to implement the system in a way that is acceptable for players. The strong preference from players to the challenge format compared to the use of the technology to call any tone advertising today. ”
