The New York Mets continues to strengthen its Bullpen in front of the MLB trading deadline on Thursday.

After already adding Gregory Soto and Trade with Tyler Rogers earlier on Wednesday, Mets followed up by acquiring closer Ryan Helsley from St. Louis Cardinals, announced the teams.

Yes, Mets already has Edwin Diaz handling their final tasks. But Helsley delivers another strong arm leader with high leverage Carlos Mendoza can use in what they hope is a trip to the World Series in October.

Mets traded for Rogers with San Francisco Giants a few hours before he got Helsley. And Soto was added via trading three days ago, where GM David Stearns did not wasting any time shooting the team’s bullp – a clear need before the deadline.

In the Helsley agreement, Mets sends over Infielder Jesus Baez (No. 8 -View), Pitcher Nate Dohm (No. 14) and Kande Frank Elissal.

Helsley is a rent for the rest of this season, which is why it was believed that the Cardinals, which are 9.5 games out of the National League lead, would see what his market was before the deadline. Helsley was not expected to sign with St. Louis.

Helsley has 21 savings and a 3.00 era over 36 games this season. This comes after Helsley led the league with 49 savings and 62 matches completed to St. Louis in 2024.

Mets leads NL East with a record of 62-47, although Philadelphia Phillies, a team that added their own study relief in Jhoan Duran on Wednesday, is just behind them with a 61-47 record.
