MLB News: Mookie Betts questionable for opening day with illness

Mookie Betts was unable to play in Los Angeles Dodgers’ first two matches of the regular season in Tokyo last week due to a disease – and he may not be able to fit this week.

Dodgers swept the two-game sets abroad against Chicago Cubs, despite Betts missing both games and even Freddie Freeman lacking action.

It was revealed that Betts was dealing with a kind of stomach error and he has been unable to keep firm food down for almost two weeks and forced him to lose £ 25.

“You weigh yourself and you weigh 150 pounds. Before I left spring I was 175 (pounds). It’s hard to just not eat Betts said this week.

Betts was actually sent back to Los Angeles from Japan to review tests and said, “Everything has come back clean.”

“I mean, I’m doing well. As my body feels good. I’ve been able to work out. I’ve been able to do pretty much anything but eating, which is weird,” said Betts. “So the symptoms have disappeared. I just have to find out how I get my stomach to relax.”

“My vitals, everything has come back clean. Blood tests, everything has come back really, really clean and healthy,” he added. “I guess it’s just something where my stomach really worsens, so I’ve just started some new medicine now to try to calm my stomach.”

Dodgers and Angels met for two exhibition games before opening day, but Betts was a late scratch on Sunday and did not play Monday.

Now the ruling World Series champs can also miss Betts on American soil.

“It’s just hard to understand not eating and playing a game,” Betts said. “So it looks like I just want to be light a little. Maybe I’m playing uphill a little at the beginning of the season. But no, I just want to play, man. I’m tired of sitting, tired of vomiting, tired of doing all this. I really just want to play.”

The eight-time all-star cut .289/.372/.491 in 116 games last year, the fewest he has had in a season since becoming a full-time player, excluding the shortened 2020 campaign.

Each time Betts comes back, however, he slides right to the top of an order that includes Freeman, Shohei Ohtani, Will Smith, Max Muncy and Teoscar Hernandez.
