Paul Skenes was the lonely bright spot in a season to forget about Pittsburgh Pirates, and he ended in a high note in 2025 and set a franchise record for most strikes in a season of a right -handed pitcher.
Skenes had seven strikes when he did not allow any race on four hits against Cincinnati Reds in his last scheduled start of the year. The Pirates defeated their National League Central opponent 4-3 in 11 laps. Of course he did it with his girlfriend, Olivia Dunne, and looked at Great American Ballpark.

He ended the year with a 1.97 era and 216 strike for the year. The pirates announced during the game that he put the mark for most strikes in a single season of justice. Bob Veal and Oliver Perez each had several strikes in a single season.
The Stage became the first qualified pitcher with an era of under 2.00, since Justin Verlander achieved Bragden in 2022. He is the youngest pitcher to achieve the state since 20-year-old Dwight Good cooked a 1.53 era in 1985.
“I’m actually worse than I was last year,” said Skenes. “It was 1.96 last year. I’m 1.97 this year. I just have to be better. No, it’s cool. I’m not coming into the year with any numeric goals.”

The Era of the Skene is the second best brand of a qualified pirates jug when Wilbur Cooper had a 1.87 era in 1916.
Pirates -Manager Don Kelly said he expected Skene’s to break down a few items during his career.

“There will be a lot of posts that Paul Skene wants as he continues to go through his career,” Kelly said. “How he prepares. How he competes. What start today and what season he has had.”
