MLB News: Rangers’ jugs almost miss starting with suspected spider bite

Texas Rangers’ starter potato Patrick Corbin was no guarantee of starting in the team’s 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels Wednesday.

Corbin, 35, entered Rangers’ clubhouse on Wednesday with a raised ankle after he was bitten by an insect Monday.

“It was really bad in the morning,” Corbin told journalists on Thursday afternoon. “I wasn’t sure if I should throw.”

“He could hardly go when he came in. I don’t know if it was a spider or what,” said Rangers’ manager Bruce Bochy. “A kind of poison came in there. Not sure if it was a spider or what. He was 50/50 about whether he would start or not,” Bochy said via mlb.com.

Corbin received treatment before the game and continued to start. He struck 5 1/3 laps while giving up only one race on five hits and beating six slaughter and getting the victory.

Rangers signed Corbin late in spring training as they dealt with damage to their starting rotation. They signed the left -handed jug on March 18.

Corbin is in its 13th MLB season. He spent the first six seasons of his career with Arizona Diamondbacks and made the National League All-Star team twice.

After six seasons of diamondbacks, Corbin spent the next six seasons with Washington Nationals after signing a six-year contract with the team before 2019.

Corbin was an integral part of the team’s pitching staff during their playoffs in 2019 when Nationals won the World Series over Houston Astros.

Rangers’ (12-7) Next match is against Los Angeles Dodgers (14-6) Friday at. 20.05 one on Friday.
