MLB pitchers indicted for gambling

Cleveland Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz were indicted Sunday on charges related to an alleged gambling spree.

Clase and Ortiz were accused of rigging bets on MLB games. Ortiz was arrested earlier Sunday, according to ESPN. Clase is not yet in custody.

“MLB contacted federal law enforcement at the beginning of its investigation and has cooperated fully throughout the process. We are aware of the indictment and today’s arrest, and our investigation is ongoing,” MLB said.

The Guardians released a statement on the matter.

“We are aware of the recent law enforcement action. We will continue to cooperate fully with both law enforcement and Major League Baseball as their investigations continue,” the team said.
