MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred flowed the opportunity to break down US and national leagues and adapt teams based on geography.
Manfred appeared on ESPN’s broadcast of Seattle Mariners and the New York Mets game, which took place in front of the Little League baseball players in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

“In my mind, I think if we expand it gives us an opportunity to geographically adapt. I think we could see a lot of wear on our players in terms of travel,” Manfred said. “And I think our format after the season would be more appealing to devices like ESPN because you wanted to play from the east, out of the west. And it is 10 o’clock where we are sometimes lost in Anaheim would be two West Coast teams. That at 10 o’clock, there is a problem for us, sometimes a real opportunity goes for our West Coast Audience.
“I think the owners are aware that there is demand for Major League Baseball in a lot of good cities. And we have an opportunity to do something good about it.”
Manfred said he was hoping to get two teams selected before retiring in 2029. MLB believes Nashville, Tennessee and Salt Lake City could be the next expansion cities, according to USA Today.

Baseball fans were not exactly enthusiastic to hear Manfred talk about adaptation.
The National League was founded in 1876 and the American league was formed in 1901. The historical aspects of the sport are what adds the beauty of the game.

It’s unclear what customization would look like. Former MLB General Manager Jim Bowden flowed an idea back in May 2023.
He predicted in an article in Athletic that MLB could move to an eastern and western conference format “consisting of four geographically adjusted departments per piece four teams per department, 16 teams per conference.”
The Eastern Conference will consist of East Division (Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies), North Division (Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Guardians, Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays), Mid-Atlantic Division (Baltimore Orioles, Expansion Team, Pittsburg Pirates, Washington Nationals) and Southastantic Division (Baltimore Orioles, Expansion Team, Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Nationals) and Southastantic Division (Atlanta Braves) Miami Marlins, expansion and Tampa Bay Rays).

The Western Conference will consist of Midwest Division (Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Milwaukee Brewers and Minnesota Twins), Southwest Division (Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers), Pacific Coast Division (Colorado Rockies, ATHLETICS, ATHLETICS, ATHLETICS, ATHLETICS, ATHLETICS, ATHLETICS, ATHLETIC Seatle Mariners and San Francisco Giants), Westback (Arizona Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres).
