He was aware when he left the field, said Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer. He was evaluated for head and neck damage.

“His fingers moved, so he was in order in that regard. No paralysis, nothing bigger, but of course I don’t want to neglect it,” Schmetzer said.

Schmetzer and crew coach Wilfried Nancy appealed to the judges to stop the fight. He welcomes Nancy to get the most important to call the fight, even when Columbus was awarded a corner kick in the last moments.

The goalkeeper wrote on social media on Monday that he was home.

“What resonates is all the messages, calls and love I have received from so many of you.”

Frei, 39, was born in Switzerland, but moved to the United States when he was a teenager. He played college football at Cal.

He has been with Sounders since 2014 and was on their MLS Cup-winning troops in 2016 and 2019. He was the MLS Cup MVP 2016 and an all-star in 2017.
