Senator Irfan Siddiqui of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has accused the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of pursuing Israeli style policies in Kashmir and claiming a commandment to transform the occupied region to “another Gaza.”

In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Irfan Siddiqui wrote that India under Modi could no longer be called the world’s greatest democracy, saying instead it had become “the largest murder for Muslims and other minorities.”

He accused the Indian government of repeating Israel’s oppressive politics in occupied Palestinian territories, especially Gaza, and apply them in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

“Modi follows the Israeli political model,” Irfan Siddiqui said. “He tries to make Kashmir another Gaza.”

With reference to India’s recurring threats of cutting off water to Pakistan, Irfan Siddiqui warned of serious consequences. “If India puts the first brick of any dam that suffocates our rivers, the answer will be with stone, not silence,” he said, adding that such actions would be treated as an act of war.

His remarks come in the midst of growing regional tension and criticism of India’s policy in Kashmir, especially after the revocation of Article 370 in 2019, which removed the region for its particular constitutional status. Rights groups have since raised alarms over widespread restrictions, arbitrary detentions and demographic changes.

Earlier, hundreds of Pakistanis gathered across the country, including in Azad Kashmir, gathered to protest against India’s threats of retaliation following a deadly attack on civilians in IIOJK on Tuesday.

The demonstrations came after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to “pursue and punish” the perpetrators of Tuesday’s assault in Pahaldam, killing 26 civilians and was the deadliest such attack in the disputed region for over two decades. Modi accused Pakistan of supporting what he described as “cross -border terrorism.”

Previously, Kashmiri students in various Indian states have reported threats and harassment in the wake of the deadly attack in Pahaldam, IIOJK, who claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly domestic tourists.

According to the IIOJK Students Association, students in states such as Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh allegedly asked to leave their rented homes and hostels shortly after the attack.

What happens in Gaza?

The death toll in Gaza has surpassed 51,400 after Israeli air strikes killed 84 more Palestinians in the last 24 hours, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. The total number of wounded has now reached 117,400 since the conflict escalated in October 2023.

The latest deaths included victims of an air strike of a school -dwelling displaced families in northern Gaza. The attack continued to mark violence despite a ceasefire agreement that had briefly paused matches.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrests for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel is also facing a genocide at the International Court of Justice for his war against the enclave.
