Islamabad:

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Tuesday called on citizens to remain cautious as isolated rainfall, thunderstorms and wind storms were predicted for Islamabad and several areas over Punjab from June 25 to July 1.

NDMA issued the statement a day after Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted that the Monsun season this year should begin Wednesday (today), which brought rain to different regions in the country.

NDMA issued an impact -based weather report from the National Emergency Operation Center (Neoc), which outlined weather conditions across different regions of Pakistan from Wednesday (today) until next Tuesday.

The report indicated the likelihood of thunderstorms, wind storms and flash floods in different parts of the country, which poses potential threats to public security, infrastructure and transport systems. It said that isolated rainfall, thunderstorms and wind storms were expected in Islamabad and most parts of Punjab.

These conditions can lead to roll -out of weak trees, temporary power cuts and damage to vulnerable structures, roof terraces, vehicles and electric lines, NDMA said. “Citizens are advised to avoid standing near trees, signage or weak structures and parking vehicles in safe places.”

Neoc also highlighted the risk of flooding of flash in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Kashmir, Potohar region and Islamabad due to spread to widespread moderate to heavy rainfall, with chances of very heavy rainfall in isolated places.

“The risk of property, infrastructure and public security in flooded and low -lying areas is significant. Residents in vulnerable places are encouraged to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel and secure household content and livestock,” NDMA said.

In KP, isolated thunderstorms and rainfall in several districts were expected, said, adding that strong winds and thunderstorms can affect the power supply, cause structural damage and reduce visibility on roads.

In Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms were expected from June 25 to July 1, 2025 with occasional holes. In addition, isolated rainfall and thunderstorms were probably in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) from 26 to 29 June.

NDMA strongly urged all citizens, travelers and relevant departments to take care measures and remain vigilant throughout this period. Emergency Response devices were asked to keep aware of possible rescue and evacuation operations.

Public was invited to stay informed by regularly checking weather updates and downloading the mobile application “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert”.
