Monty the Giant Schnauzer appointed Best in Show on the 149th Westminster Dog Show

The third time was the charm of Monty The Giant Schanuzer on the 149th edition of Westminster Dog Show at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night.

This year, the competition was stiff with seven competitors representing their races and Monty, the giant Schnauzer removed the victory in the working group for the third year in a row.

However, this was Monty’s first time named best in the show, and the first time the working group had won Westminster however show since 2004.

After being sequested in the first two days of the competition, Judge Paula Nykiel had the challenge of awarding best in the show to only one of seven incredible dogs before settling on Monty.

This was her ninth year to judge the show and she says the job is “wonderful” but “difficult”.

Bourbon Whippet, a close runner-up, came out of retirement at nine years old to represent Hound Group Winning Reserve Best in Show and take the victory in the HOUND group home.

Bourbon has been reserve best in show twice at Westminster before.

Neal the Bichon Frisé won the non-sports group, Mercedes The German Shepherd won the crew group, Comet, as Shih Tzu won the toy group, Freddie The English jumping Spaniel won the sporting group and comet that Shih Tzu won the toy group.
