Moon -sighting body to convene in Pesahwar

Islamabad:

The federal government has decided to convene the Central Ruet-E-Hilal Committee in Peshawar to see the Ramazan moon for a comprehensive start to the Holy month over Pakistan.

According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the meeting will be held to determine the beginning of Ramazan 1446 Hijri on February 28.

Committee chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad will preside over the session.

Zonal Ruet-E-Hilal Committee holds separate meetings in their respective regions, but the final decision on moonlight comes from the central body.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs will oversee the events.

Pakistan has historically faced differences in the Moon’s observation, which has led to different Ramazan and Eid dates in different provinces, especially between Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the rest of the country.

The government hopes that moving the Central Committee’s meeting to Peshawar will promote consensus among religious scholars and secure a synchronized compliance with the Holy Month.
