- Xiaomi says it’s sold more than 2,000 yu7s within three minutes of launch
- The electric SUV deliberately undermines the model y
- Enormous demand means the company’s construction capacity is sold out until 2027
Not satisfied with ripping the EV Rule Book in Nurburgring-Hatting SU7 Ultra, Chinese technology giant Xiaomi now enters the popular and warmly disputed SUV market with its YU7.
There are no guesses that Bestseller of his latest model is shooting as Xiaomis Tesla-Baiting Model Better’s Musk’s best-selling creation in almost any statistics.
It is faster from 0-62 km / h, the range is significantly higher than a model Y (in the YU7 Max versions), and it works on a modern 800V architecture for ultra-rapid charging-all this, which is approx. $ 1,400 cheaper than a base model y in China.
Xiaomis YU7, offered in three different variants (Standard, Pro and MAX), delivers a variety of performance and electric range, with the entry-level standard version, offering nearly 520 miles on a single charge, according to China’s notoriously generous lightweight vehicle test cycle (CLTC).
800V Silicon carbide platform means it supports ultra-fast charging up to 5.2C (a speed of 5.2 times its capacity in one hour), this allows it to seam a charge of 10-80% in as little as 12 minutes and can add up to 385 miles of range in 15 minutes.
The performance is also strong with Marques Hyperengine V6S Plus, giving the YU7 MAX model with 690 hp, which is translated to a top speed of 146 km / h and a 0-62 mph sprint time in just 3.2 seconds.
It is a veritable technical party under the shaped, almost Ferrari-Esque skin, with Nvidia’s Drive Agx Thor Chips, which drives advanced levels of autonomous driving, as well as the new Xiaomi Hypervision Panoramic display projecting information on the lower half of the windshield.
The technology giant also says that the powerful infotainment system offers bags of entertainment, including microfric karaoke and the opportunity to fall in love with a digital pet capybara or an otter. The virtual critters apparently act as AI assistant.
Xiaomi has cleverly even installed double-thread ports with power on both sides of the dashboard that can house operational accessory smartphone-cradle, while the rearview mirror can hold a 4K gimbal camera.
Analysis: To cope with demand is Xiaomi’s biggest problem

Last year, the Tesla model Y was the best-selling car in China, and it continued to keep its own against an attack of domestic rivals launched in recent months. That said, Car News China reports that Tesla sales are still 24% down until this year.
Xiaomis Yu7 poses a serious threat to Tesla’s foothold in the country, but it must be followed by Xpeng’s much-left G7 and Li-Autos i8, which is said to have the latest generation, which is quickly charging NMC battery from CATL.
Musk has reacted by announcing only a china version of the model Y, which can be configured with either six or seven seats, but it has not found it appropriate to update the vehicle beyond the adjustments it made earlier this year, which did not include faster charging ability.
However, some media in China have reported that Xiaomi could fight to keep up with the demand for both the newly launched SU7 performance Sedan and Yu7 SUV, with car news China that waiting times for the SU7 Pro is almost a year.
It currently has only a single plant in Beijing that is dedicated to producing its electric vehicles, which means that unless it can increase output, the violent pre -orders mean that everything is sold out for the next year and a half.
A nice problem to have for Xiaomi and a little glimpse of hope for Tesla.
