At this point, it seems almost certain that Apple will get a foldable iPhone out in September 2026, and we just got a few more details about what we can expect from an Apple tipster that is usually more reliable than most.
This tipster is Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, who says the folding Apple phone will use Touch ID rather than Face ID. While all the current iPhones are now using facial id, the thoughts are that the required sensors will add too much thickness to the collapsible.
Apple will therefore go with Touch ID to keep the device as thin as possible, says Gurman, and there will be no SIM card castle for the same reason – this will only be eSim. Previous leaks have predicted that the phone will be 4.8 mm thick when unfolded, compared to 4.2 mm of the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.
This latest report also states that we get four cameras on the folded iPhone: one on the outer screen, one on the inner screen and two on the back (both of which will be 48MP cameras, according to a previous rumor).

If previous reports are to believe, one of the reasons a foldable iPhone has taken so long because Apple is very eager to make the screen fold as invisible as possible and it seems that the company now has a display setup that is happy with.
Per. Gurman will use the folded iPhone what is known as a touch screen in the cell, with an integrated display and digitizer layer. It would make the screen technology that is similar to what we have on the current iPhone models, ensuring a “less obvious” curling and improving touch accuracy.
Other tips from the report: The folded iPhone will be available in black or white, and will include Apple’s own C2 Modemchip, which is expected to debut in the iPhone 17 (and which should lead to improved efficiency and battery life).
Gurman says the folding iPhone will be a “game change” for Apple, and his faith is that anyone who switches to a folded iPhone doesn’t want to go back. First, however, we have this year’s iPhone 17 launch coming up next month.
