- Motorola has revealed the Moto X70 Air
- It’s a super thin phone competing with iPhone Air and Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge
- The phone measures less than 6 mm and is expected to be launched in Europe as the edge 70
Motorola has revealed the Moto X70 Air, a super thin phone that is clearly designed to compete with iPhone Air and Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge.
According to The Verge, the phone measures less than 6 mm thick, although we have no accurate measurements at the time of writing. This would not be the thinnest smartphone Motorola ever made. Moto Z, a modular phone launched in 2017, was 5.19 mm thin without any accessories attached.
The phone is expected to come to Europe like Motorola Edge 70, but we are not sure which countries this includes yet.
Motorola’s site says “something new is coming” on November 5, but we are not sure if this is a release date or just the message date of the new phone. Website also contains a quiz to access a pre-launch agreement
In addition to a super-slim design and 6.7-inch screen, the X70 air comes with an impressively large battery. Motorola has equipped the phone with a 4,800 mAh battery, which is not far away from the battery capacity of a typical large flagship such as the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge has a 3,800mAh cell, while Gsmarena shows iPhone Air’s battery capacity at 3,149mAh. The X70 air has both beaten by some margin.
From Motorola’s reproductions, it seems that the phone has three lenses, but one of these is gray. For my eye, this suggests that the phone is sent with two full cameras and a further depth or color sensor. The square camera body is rounded off by a flash module.
The phone is also IP68 and IP69 assessed for water and dust, which means it is immersed and dusted.
We do not have a price on Motorola X70 Air / Edge 70 at the time of writing, but regardless of cost, I think this is a very meaningful development for the phone industry as a whole – let me explain.
Air pressure
Earlier this year, I wrote that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge could bring a new age with thin and light phones, allowing powerful advanced pro phones to develop into more performing devices without so much attention directed at ergonomics.
It seems that the engineers on Apple were on a similar wavelength because it is exactly what we saw with the new iPhone 17 -Lineup: the new Thin iPhone Air and the new iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max with huge camera ‘Plateaus’.
But the top dogs in the tech industry experimenting are not enough to change the way we use tech every day – these new product ideas must filter down to niche and available brands to get a proper foothold.
Therefore, the Motorola X70 Air is such an exciting view: For me, it suggests that the rest of the phone industry wakes up to the opportunities and portability that super -thin phones allow. In that case, I would expect to see thin phones from other telephone manufacturers in the next year as a result of pressure from both high-end and in the middle of the industry.
Until then, our iPhone Air Review and Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Review give a glimpse of what it really is like to use a thin phone. Be sure to tell us what you think about the Motorola X70 Air in the comments below.
