- Mozilla takes Gmail, Microsoft 365 with a number of new features
- Thunderbird Pro Includes Agreement, Send and Thundermail
- A new AI Writing Tool also comes with local treatment
Mozilla transforms his Thunderbird Open Source -Email client into a full communication platform with the launch of Thundermail and Thunderbird Pro.
The expansion of Mozilla’s E email services aims to compete with rival ecosystems such as Gmail and Microsoft 365, which are more rich in features, except Mozilla’s offerings stand out for its open source values for privacy, freedom, transparency and user respect.
“Thunderbird loses users every day to rich ecosystems that are both clients and services,” Confirmed Ryan Sipes, CEO of Product Thunderbird as he expressed ‘why’ Behind Thunderbird’s expansion.
Thunderbird is getting an audit
The Thunderbird database says its number of active monthly installations has dropped from 17.7 million at the end of December 2020 to 16.2 million at the end of March 2025, with the mail app struggling to follow the industry’s main players like Gmail.
With the launch of Thunderbird Pro adds Mozilla Thunderbird agreement, a new planning tool for sharing calendarlink; Thunderbird Send, a reconstruction of the ceased Firefox -Send; And Thunderbird Assist, a new AI-driven writing tool enabled via a Flower AI partnership intended to perform the treatment locally to eliminate concerns about privacy.
The last launch will be Thundermail, an email hosting service using the Open Source-Stalwart stack. USRS will be able to choose between thundermail.com and tb.pro -domains.
Apart from consistent community contributors who will be able to get early access for free, Sipes confirmed that Mozilla would eventually end up charging for the features such as Send that requires storage, an expensive item.
“Once we have a strong enough user base for the services to be sustainable, we open free levels with restrictions, such as less storage or the like,” sipes added.
