MPs unite to condemn honor killings

Islamabad:

The National Assembly on Wednesday adopted a decision that strongly condemned the illegal acts of so -called honor killings.

Moved by Shahida Rehmani emphasized the zero tolerance for such actions and suggested the formation of an interprovinsial task force to coordinated action to limit these crimes.

The house also confirmed Pakistan’s historical and unwavering support to the Palestinian people and their struggle for freedom, dignity and justice.

The resolution moved by PPP legislator Shazia Marri expressed deep concern about the continued and escalating Israeli military aggression in Gaza, which has resulted in the killing of civilians and widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure.

It condemned strongly recent statements and actions of Israeli authorities indicating plans for the long -term occupation of Gaza, forcing offset of its population and trying to erase the Palestinian identity of the territory.

The dissolution also condemned the use of hunger, siege and collective punishment as war tools, stressing that these actions constitute war crimes under international law.

The house called on the United Nations and the international community to fulfill their moral and legal responsibility by taking immediate and concrete steps to end Israeli military aggression in Gaza, ensure the protection of civilians and guarantee unimpeded delivery of humanitarian assistance. It also called for the occupying power to be held responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity, and that the Palestinian people are supported in their quest for justice and self -determination.

The resolution also called on the government to continue to raise its vote for the Palestinian case on all international forums, including the United Nations and OIC.

In another decision that was moved by Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar of PML-N, Parliament called on the federal government to strengthen a legal framework to ensure strict penalty for unauthorized video recording, cyber-harassment and digital defamation.

It emphasized to strengthen the capacity of the law enforcement authorities, including digital forensic units, to investigate and respond quickly and effectively.

The house also called for targeted public consciousness campaigns on digital rights, remedies and secure reporting channels, in addition to establishing dedicated complaint tables in police stations. It also recommended to introduce educational modules on digital ethics, privacy rights and laws of harassment in institutions.
