Murree gets the status of municipal corporation

Will consist of 17 union councils and has a total population of 132,005 residents

RAWALPINDI:

Electoral delimitations for Murree district have been finalized under the Local Government Act 2025, according to a new notification issued by the Secretary of the Punjab Local Government and Community Development Department.

Under the revised arrangements, the mountain resort of Murree – often referred to as the “Queen of the Hills” – has been given the status of a fully autonomous municipal corporation. The newly formed Murree Municipal Corporation (MMC) will include 17 union councils and has a total population of 132,005.

Meanwhile, Tehsil Council Murree will consist of 15 union councils with a total population of 120,521.

In the district’s other tehsil, Kotli Sattian, two local public institutions have been established. The first is the Municipal Committee Kotli Sattian, which will cover the urban area and include three association councils with a population of 26,067.

Tehsil Council Kotli Sattian, on the other hand, will comprise 12 union councils and serve a population of 94,354.

Additionally, Murree Hills Cantonment will continue to function as a separate LG unit.
