- ABC is long rumored Scrubs Resuscitation is officially under development
- The popular medical comedy drama ran in nine seasons between 2001 and 2008
- It is broadcast on ABC and Hulu in the US but there is no word about where it will be available internationally
It’s time to dust off your medical coats and personal seekers of, Scrubs Fans, because the popular medical comedy drama’s long-weight resuscitation actually happens.
First reported by Variety and later confirmed on the TV show’s various social media channels, the Zach Braff-Fronted project has received a straight-to-series order by the US Network ABC for the TV season 2025/26. This means that at least one season will be made and it will be released sometime before August 2026.
As confirmed Scrubs‘Official Facebook page, it is launched on ABC and Hulu in the USA. However, there is no word about where the international audience will be able to see it. My best guess is that it comes to Disney+ – actually ABC, Hulu and Disney+ all owned by Walt Disney Company, so it makes sense that the last of these three services would be Scrubs‘International Home. I’ve reached Disney for an official comment and I’ll update this piece if I hear back.
Surprising Scrubs Does not have a specific release date, nor is there any official word about whether it is a full scale reboot or a soft revival of the original TV show. Variety and ABC have announced original role crew Braff, Donal Faison and Sarah Chalke return as John Dorian (more commonly known as JD), Chris Turk and Elliot Reid. The latter is the more likely scenario.
The new series Plot Brief provides additional proof that it will be a TV resurrection. Per ABC: “JD and Turk Scrubs up for the first time in a long time. Medicine has changed [and] Interns have changed, but their bromance has been the test of time. Grades new and old navigate the water in Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way. “
Bill Lawrence that developed the original series, and co-created Apple TV+ hits Ted Lasso and Shrinkingreturning to control the show’s revival. Braff, Faison and Chalke will execute products Scrubs 2.0 Next to Lawrence. Tim Hobert and Aseem will serve as showrunners and executive producers.
OPINION: DERCK NOT Scrubs on the operating table please
Happy, as I am, that scrubs come back, I’m worried that it could lose what made the original impossible view in the early to the mid -2000s.
As Revival’s story Synopsis indicates, there has been significant progress in the medical industry since Scrubs Originally debuted at NBC. The same is the case for society so I expect Scrubs 2.0 Being a more progressive and inclusive series than its predecessor was. I get so alarmed if some of the original runs’ outdated jokes and/or stereotypes are preserved.
When that said I hope Scrubs‘Restart is not too far from other aspects that made the original so great. Keep the single camera format. Bring other characters back from the show’s first race, even if they only appear in supporting or cameo roles. Make sure it is as witty, slapstick and sarcastic as its ancestors. And perhaps most importantly, its melodrama and emotional scenes make me kick me in the gut and/or make my heart hover.
Do all that I have outlined in the above paragraph and I am sure Scrubs Will be one of the best Hulu shows and best Disney+ shows when it’s ready to be discharged from the hospital and land on two of the world’s best streaming services. However, fail to do so, and the first season of the restart may also be its last.
