Islamabad:
The National Assembly’s Standing Health Committee on Thursday proposed various reforms in Medical and Dental College’s Admission Test (MDCAT), including increasing its weight for admission to the college.
The committee met with its chairman Dr. Mahesh Kumar Malani in the President. The meeting discussed questions relating to Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), the medical education system, regulatory failures in the health sector and other issues.
The committee raised serious questions about the reforms of the medical examinations and PMDC’s performance. The committee was informed that MDCAD should be held on Sunday, October 5 throughout the country.
The committee expressed concern about the lack of transparency, the difference between the exam boards and the injustice of MDCAT. It suggested that the weighting of the result of MDCAT had to be increased so that deserving students could have opportunities to obtain medical education.
The committee also proposed a central exam system and the creation of a data bank of approx. 3,000 to 4,000 standard questions for all provinces. The committee also questioned an unreasonable demarcation of colleges by PMDC, political interference and injustice in student registration.
The committee also discussed complaints about various medical colleges and hospitals. It instructed quick action to solve the problems the students who have trained from Kyrgyzstan.
