Islamabad:
The National Assembly’s Standing Committee for Cabinet Secretariat approved on Thursday the officials (amendments) Bill 2024 by majority.
The Bill proposes several provisions, including mandatory declaration for government employees, accelerating with the right size process and abolition of redundant departments.
According to the amendment, all government employees must declare their assets. The federal government is empowered to abolish or merge departments that are either sleeping or have become a financial burden.
The Bill also suggested that redundant employees be printed after offering them a financial package instead of placing them in an excess pool. PBS1-5 jobs will be outsourced to the private sector to reduce pension bills.
The bill also recommends age relaxation for recruiting officials. Young officers can be given up to 10 years of age relaxation for new appointments.
Various members expressed concern about the proposed changes during the meeting. PML-N leader Tahira Aurangzeb claimed that dismissal of employees from grade 1 to 5 would lead to an increase in crime.
