NA Panel passes Digital Nation Pakistan Bill

ISLAMABAD:

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology has approved the Digital Nation Pakistan Amendment Bill 2024 by majority vote amid opposition and concern over the rush to pass the law.

Ten members voted in favor, while six were against the bill. IT and Telecommunications Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, who introduced the bill last month, emphasized the need for digital transformation to address key public issues, reduce financial fraud and tackle growing national cyber security threats.

The committee, headed by Syed Aminul Haque, discussed the proposed bill before the final vote.
