The National Assembly on Monday unanimously adopted a decision confirming the country’s obligation to peace, but warned that any violation of its sovereignty or security would be met with a firm and decisive response.
The resolution rejected what it called “frivolous and baseless” attempts to connect Pakistan to the Pahagam attack in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). It condemned India’s “orchestrated and Malafide campaign” to Malignant Pakistan for political gain.
The house repeated Pakistan’s attitude against terrorism in all its forms and declared that the killing of innocent civilians was in violation of the values maintained by the Pakistani state.
In a strong reprimand of recent Indian actions, the decision also condemned New Delhi’s unilateral decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty and called it an “obvious violation” corresponding to an act of war.
“Pakistan remains fully capable and prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against any aggression, including war, terrorism or military provocation,” the decision said. It cited Pakistan’s military reaction to India’s actions in February 2019 as evidence of its readiness.
The resolution demanded that India be held responsible for its alleged involvement in terrorism and targeted murder of foreign soil, including Pakistan. It was concluded by confirming Pakistan’s unwavering political, moral and diplomatic support for Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
Opposition leader Omar Ayub warned that any Indian aggression against Pakistan would lead to serious consequences and declared that India would be “wiped out” if it launched an attack. He urged the government to deliver a firm and unambiguous message to New Delhi in the midst of rising regional tensions.
Ayub issued a sharp warning against Indian provocation and criticized the government’s response as weak and fuzzy. “Narendra Modi’s government is capable of launching aggression at any time,” he said. “Pakistan has to send a clear message: If India starts any misadventure, it will be wiped out.”
The opposition leader described the Pahagam incident as a false flag surgery and noted that the attack took place over 450 kilometers from the Pakistan border and had no connection to the country. “We condemn the incident, but Pakistan has never been involved in such actions,” he said.
Ayub called Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for offering an international investigation. “If we didn’t have any role, why offer a study? Doesn’t that blame for guilt?” He asked. He warned that any future conflict with India, though it may be short, would be devastating in intensity.
He also accused India of escalating tension by testing Brahmos missiles and urging the government to adopt a firm attitude. “If India breaks the Indus Waters Treaty, it constitutes a declaration of war – and we have to respond accordingly,” he said.
Ayub also praised former Prime Minister Imran Khan and said, “This nation needs a leader like Imran Khan who had the courage to shoot Indian jets and send a message to Modi, Hitler today.”
