National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced the issuance of unique lifetime Computerized National Identification Cards (CNIC) for people with disabilities and organ donors.
These cards have a wheelchair symbol to facilitate easier identification and access to services.
According to a Nadra spokesman, the Pakistani government has approved changes to the national identity cards in 2002.
As part of these changes, Nadra issues special ID cards to people with disabilities and those who have donated bodies, with the aim of improving their convenience and recognition.
The new ID cards for people with disabilities will be Lifetime -card with a wheelchair logo. These will be available to both Pakistani citizens living in the country and those residing abroad.
In addition, the young ID cards (B form) for special children will also carry the wheelchair symbol.
Registration with relevant federal or provincial authorities will be mandatory for people with disabilities to get these cards.
Furthermore, organ donors will receive a special life card with both a wheelchair and donor symbol, provided they are registered with the relevant donor registration authorities.
Nadra confirmed that the message of these changes will be published in the upcoming Gazette by Pakistanafter which the amendments are officially enforced.
Previously, Nadra closes its site and replaces it with a mobile app for all services due to problems with fraud and difficulties facing citizens, especially overseas Pakistanis.
The new app provides services such as National ID cards, Nicop, POC, B forms and more. The website is deactivated from January 17th.
In addition, Nadra plans to open three new regional centers in Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Gwadar and Gilgit-Baltistan before March 31, 2025 to improve service delivery in remote areas.
The government is also working to establish Nadra offices in 19 remaining tehsils over Pakistan.
There have been reports of abuse of Nadra’s online verification system by some police officers, allegedly provided sensitive data to criminals and scammers.
In response, Nadra has implemented 24-hour pass processing counters at Mega Centers in major cities such as Karachi and Islamabad.
