National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced an upgraded version of the non-chip national identity card that offers improved security, accessibility and affordable prices.
The update aims to give citizens digital features that were previously limited to chip-based identity cards while maintaining a lower cost than the smart NICs.
Other updates include:
Bilingual information: Details of the map are available in both English and Urdu for consistency with passports and official documents.
QR -Code Integration: The card includes a QR code that gives users access to their digital identity via Pak ID mobile app.
In comparison, a chip-based CNIC has relevant data from the proprietor, while it could be used for different purposes without an Internet connection.
Special Benefits for Organ donors: Registered organ donors will have a unique symbol of their maps and enjoy lifetime validity.
Excluding features for people with disabilities: Maps for people with disabilities include various markers and lifetime validity.
The new map is available for renewal, data modification or replacement in case of loss.
The prices of the upgraded non-chip ID are as follows:
Normal: RS400 (31-day delivery)
Urgent: RS1,150 (15-day delivery)
Executive: RS2.150 (9-day delivery)
First time applicants aged 18: Free (Normal Category)
Separately revised Nadra also the smart CNIC fee structure for 2025. New smart CNICs now cost the RS750 for Normal, RS1.500 for urgent and RS2,500 for performing treatment.
These updates are part of Nadra’s ongoing efforts to modernize national ID systems and support digital governance in Pakistan.
