Final Fantasy 14’s Legendary director and producer Naoki Yoshida has discussed her role in the game in a new interview.
Perhaps best known as Yoshi-P, Yoshida acknowledges that while working on other projects in Square Enix, he still plans to continue working on the long-lasting MMORPG “for at least a good while”.
In a talk with noisy pixel at Pax West, Yoshida had the following to say about her time working on the game:
“People tend to say that we are creators or creative, but I am an employee of Square Enix and I receive money to make games, and I think my primary purpose is to make games so we deliver it to players out there, fans, players who want to consume our product.”
“I think it’s basic or a minimum requirement that I have because I belong to this company,” he added, describing himself as “more of a businessman” than one of the creative back Final Fantasy 14.
Yoshida explained that he can’t be bored with working on the project because there is still more he will add to the game launched in 2010 but was relaunched under his guidance in 2013.
“I don’t think so, because there are a lot of things that I have not yet actualized in 14, things that I will do, things that I need to do, things that require to be taken care of,” he said.
“And then I think at least a good while I should be in order,” he added, while also joking that he will do less in the way of “leadership or operational things” and help more with game development design.
Yoshida has recently worked on Fantasian: Neo DimensionBut was the producer at Final Fantasy XVILaunched in 2023. Final Fantasy 14‘s latest extension, Dawntraillaunched last August.
