Interior Minister briefs Shehbaz on meetings in Rome, Poland; illegal migration to Europe fell by 47%

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif was on Sunday briefed by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi about the results of his recent participation in two high-level multilateral meetings held in Europe.
Naqvi informed Shehbaz about his participation in a four-nation interior ministers’ meeting in Rome, Italy, which brought together counterparts from Pakistan, Italy, Spain and Greece. He also briefed the prime minister about a separate meeting of six countries held in Poland, attended by the home ministers of Pakistan, Poland, Latvia, Finland, Estonia and Lithuania.

Both conferences resulted in an agreement between the participating nations to expedite the issuance of legal work permits to Pakistani nationals, Naqvi told the prime minister.
He further conveyed the member states’ appreciation of Pakistan’s efforts to reduce the number of people traveling illegally to European countries – a figure which fell by 47% within a single year – as well as the measures taken to combat human trafficking.

On the bilateral front, Poland and Italy are ready to soon abolish visa requirements for holders of Pakistani diplomatic and official passports, Naqvi informed Shehbaz. He also noted that a comprehensive plan to further strengthen Pakistan’s immigration and border security capabilities will be presented to the EU at the earliest opportunity.
Shehbaz praised the home minister for his efforts. The meeting also touched on the country’s internal situation and overall security landscape.
