Naqvi, Sadiq discusses PTI’s ‘Attitude’

Islamabad:

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and the National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq met in Islamabad on Sunday, with discussions focusing on Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf’s (PTI) “attitude” during recent negotiations with the government.

A statement from the Ministry of the Interior said the two leaders considered questions of mutual interest and the overall political situation in the country.

It added that “PTI’s attitude despite the positive progress the government has made for negotiations” was also discussed.

Naqvi praised Sadiq’s efforts to promote dialogue between the opposition and the ruling coalition. “Ayaz Sadiq has played a commendable role in gathering the government and the opposition parties,” the Minister of the Interior was quoted as saying.

The meeting also affected the country’s “improvement in the economic situation” and the government’s initiatives to tackle public complaints.

Negotiations between the government and PTI were originally started in December 2024 after more than a year of escalating tensions. However, despite weeks of discussions, the negotiations wavered over key disagreements – primarily the formation of two judicial commissions and the release of PTI prisoners.

PTI Boikoted the fourth round of negotiations this week and protested the government’s delay in forming legal commissions to investigate events 9 May 2023 and November 26, 2024.

While the ruling coalition expanded an invitation to PTI to join the process through a proposed parliamentary committee, the opposition rejected the offer.

The negotiation teams consisted of members of various political parties. The prevailing coalition was represented by PML-N, PPP, MQM-P, PML-Z and Balochistan Awami Party, while the opposition team included leaders from PTI, Majlis Wahdat-E-Muslime and Sunni Itehad Council.
